<p><b>නව පිටුව</b></p><div>බුදුරදුන් දිවමන් සමයෙහි ජීවක වෛද්යවරයා සතු ව පැවති අඹවනයකි. හෙතෙම එහි රාත්රිස්ථාන, කුටි, මණ්ඩපාදියෙන් යුත් විහාරයක් හා එය හාත්පස අටළොස් රියන් පවුරක් ද කරවා බුද්ධ ප්රමුඛ මහාසංඝයාට පිදී ය. එහි බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ උදෙසා කළ ගන්ධකුටියෙක් ද විය. මේ ගන්ධකුටියෙහි නොයෙක් විට වැඩ විසූ භාග්යවතුන් වහන්සේ මෙහි දී සාමඤ්ඤඵල සූත්රය, ජීවක සූත්ර හා චුල්ලසෙට්ඨි ජාතකාදිය දේශනා කළහ. චුල්ලපන්ථක තෙරණුවෝ මේ අඹවනයේ දී රහත් වූහ. මද්දකුච්ඡි විහාරය තිබුණේ මීට නුදුරුව ය. බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ පාදය තුවාල වූ අවස්ථාවෙහි චඤ්චසිවිකාවක මද්දකුච්ඡි විහාරයට ද එහි සිට ජීවක අඹවනයට ද ඔසවාගෙන ගිය බවත් ජීවක වෛද්යවරයාගේ ප්රතිකාරවලින් තුවාලය සුව වූ බවත් සඳහන් වේ.<br />

සර් ඇලෙක්සැන්ඩර් කනිංහැම්, ඒ. ඇම්. බ්රෝඞ්ලි ආදි පුරාවිද්යාඥයන් ජීවක අඹවනය හැටියට ස්ථාන කිහිපයක් ම හැඳින්වූ නමුදු පසුකාලයෙහි නියම ජීවක අඹවනය සොයා ගැනීමෙන් පසු ඒ මත බැහැර විය. පැරණි රජගහනුවර සිට ගිජ්ඣකූට පර්වතයට යන මාර්ගයෙහි වම් අත පැත්තේ කම්බි වැටකින් වටකර ඇති භූමිය ජීවකාරාමය තිබුණ ස්ථානය හැටියට එහි පරීක්ෂණ පැවැත්වූ පුරාවිද්යාඥයෝ හඳුන්වති. ක්රි.ව. 1934-1958 දක්වා කලින් කල මේ භූමිය පරීක්ෂා කිරීමේ දී මතුපිට තිබූ ආයත චතුරස්රාකාර ව තනන ලද බිම තැනින් තැන පිහිටි ගඩොල් ඇල්ලූ අප්රධාන කාමර රැුසක් හමුවිය. මේ හැර රළු ආකාරයෙන් නිම කරන ලද රක්තවර්ණ මැටි භාජන, යකඩ ඇණ හා මැටිවලින් තනන ලද සත්ත්ව රූප ද එහි තිබී හමුවුණු පුරාවස්තු අතර විය. මේ භූමියේ අඩියක් පමණ යටින් ස්වාභාවික විශාල ශිලාතලයකි. ගොඩනැගිලිවල පදනම දමා තිබුණේ ඒ මත ය.<br />

අණ්ඩාකාර ගොඩනැගිලිවල හා ආයත චතුරස්රාකාර කාමරවල විශාලත්වය, සාමාන්ය ගොඩනැගිලිවල හා කාමරවල විශාලත්වය ඉක්මවා තුබුණු බව පරීක්ෂණයේ දී හෙළිවුණ තවත් කරුණකි. ඒවා නිර්මාණය කර තිබුණ අකාරය අනුව සලකා බලන කල සාමාන්ය වාසස්ථාන වශයෙන් ප්රයෝජනයට ගත් ගොඩනැගිලිවල ස්රූපයක් නොමැති බව පැහැදිලි ව ම පෙනේ. අණ්ඩාකාර ශාලාවල විශාලත්වය මී. 63 x මී. 10කි. කාමර ද සාමාන්ය ප්රමාණයට වඩා විශාල ය. විශාලත්වය හා පරිසරයට අනුව නිගමනය කළ හැක්කේ, ඒවා ගෘහස්ථ ජීවිත සඳහා නොයෙදූ බව ය. මේ දක්වා පරීක්ෂණයට භාජන වූ භූමිභාගයේ විශාලත්වය මී. 152 x මී. 91කි.<br />
<br />
පොළොවෙන් මතු කරන ලද මැටි භාජන ද සාමාන්ය ජනයා ප්රයෝජනයට ගන්නා භාජනවලට හාත්පසින් වෙනස් ය. ඒවා අතර විශාල භාජන, පාත්ර හා දීසි ආදිය විය. මේ ආදි කරුණු අනුව ඒවා සාමාන්ය ජනයාගේ වාසස්ථාන නොව සඕඝාරාම හෝ පොදුවේ භුක්ති විඳින ගෘහ විය යුතු යයි නිගමනය කර ඇත. චීන භික්ෂූන්ගේ වාර්තා අනුව ද ජීවකාරාමය පිහිටියේ ගිජ්ඣකූටයට යන පාරේ බැවින්, දැනට සොයාගෙන ඇති ස්ථානය ස්ථිර වශයෙන් ම එය බව කිව හැකි ය.<br />
